Tiny Ghost Stories Contest
These designs had two purposes: 1) to announce the contest winners and 2) to highlight excerpts of the first and second-place pieces. I enjoyed following a template of my “New Pieces” design in Figma, instead using a dark grey color palette to compliment the Ghost Story theme of the contest. The text and image effects were created in Illustrator and Photoshop, respectively.

Submission Advertisements
These calls for submissions were experimental for me. I explored a new method of layering design elements on top of one another in Photoshop and Illustrator. It was interesting to learn different tools and effects, but I am concerned about the design’s legibility and accessibility.

New Pieces 11.17.2022
New Piece announcements serve to 1) update readers and authors on new pieces 2) drive traffic to our website and social media pages. At the start of the year, I reiterated the previous design in the following ways…
TOOLS
Illustrator
Figma
Designed on a portrait-sized canvas to minimize comment distractions and take up more space on the Instagram feed page, which draws the viewer’s eye in while scrolling
Balanced card visuals with a combination of images, body text, and large titles
Maintained brand consistency between carousel slides so any export or screenshot of the content would include 1) “The Review presents…” 2) the website swarthmorereview.com and 3) the Instagram username @swat.review
Added an initial “New Pieces” index slide to the carousel to list all of the contents for users to see on first glance
Included summaries of pieces in order to draw readers in and drive them to the website
